Therapy For Adults

Life can be hard to carry on your own. Whether you are dealing with something recent or something you have lived with for a long time, therapy offers a space to understand what is going on for you and how to fully live.

My approach to supporting adults

Adults come to me at all sorts of points in their lives. Some are navigating a recent loss, a difficult diagnosis, or a relationship that has broken down. Others have carried something painful for years and have reached a moment where they want to understand it differently.

I will guide you through sharing your story, we will develop a shared understanding of what is happening for you, grounded in psychological theory. From there will start to develop an approach that is tailored to you. This will drawer on a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) or Internal Family Systems (IFT).

What I can help adults with

You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of the adults I work with are managing day to day, but feel weighed down by something they cannot quite resolve on their own. Whatever has brought you here, it is enough of a reason to reach out.

I'm a clinical psychologist experienced in adult mental health

I commonly work with adults experiencing:

  • Anxiety, low mood and depression

  • The impact of trauma, whether recent or from the past

  • Adjustment to chronic illness, injury or a physical health diagnosis

  • Grief, loss and bereavement

  • Relationship difficulties and significant life changes

  • Anger and difficulty managing emotional responses

Whatever you are facing, I work to understand the whole picture before we decide together how best to move forward.

What to expect from therapy sessions for adults

The first step is a free 15-minute telephone call, a no-pressure conversation where you can ask questions and get a sense of whether working with me feels right.

Next comes an initial assessment, which gives me the chance to listen carefully and build a fuller picture of your situation. From there, I will develop a shared understanding of what is happening and work with you to agree a helpful path forward.

Some people need a few sessions, others benefit from working together over a longer period. We move at a pace that suits you.

A tailored therapeutic approach, built around you

I draw on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including CBT, ACT, CFT, EMDR and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.

More importantly, I will choose a custom approach that combines these methods in a way that fits your situation, your history, and what you are finding most difficult right now. If trauma is part of your story, I am also trained in the EMDR and Internal Family Systems integration model, an approach designed for deeper trauma processing.
